Belvedere Museum brings Klimt’s “The Kiss” NFTs to New York for Valentine’s Day

From The Kiss’ official home – the Belvedere Museum, Vienna – the unique offering presents the ‘ultimate declaration of love’ for next-generation art enthusiasts and patrons.

Gustav Klimt is most famous for his painting, The Kiss, which can be viewed at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria. I was lucky enough to visit this incredible museum in February 2019 and see The Kiss and many other Klimt paintings up close. This is an experience I highly suggest for any art lover, but especially for Klimt fans.

The Austrian painter Gustav Klimt crafted The Kiss (Lovers) in 1908/09, a masterpiece symbolizing love as a quintessential part of human existence. This painting considered the zenith of his “Golden Period,” portrays a couple locked in an intimate embrace, seemingly lost in their private world.

In 2022, the well-known Belvedere Museum made waves in the digital art world by creating a high-quality digital image of Klimt’s masterpiece and turning it into NFTs. They made 10,000 unique tiles, each representing an authenticated piece of Belvedere‘s NFT collection. This makes the NFTs special collectibles for art lovers and collectors.

The special NFT tiles can be dedicated to someone important, adding a personal touch to any digital art collection. Art lovers can honor special memories or beloved individuals by dedicating a tile in their name, joining a group of patrons who value both traditional art and cutting-edge technology. NFT holders will also receive invitations to exclusive events at the museum and beyond.

“One of the first public museums in the world, the Belvedere has been a center for art for centuries. Through our ‘The Kiss’ NFTs, the Belvedere Museum is excited to be at the forefront of digital innovation in engaging new global audiences. Affirming our place as a thought-leader in the field, we hope this moment demonstrates how traditional museums can work in innovative ways to reach new generations of art lovers and collectors alike.”

— Stella Rollig, General Director of the Belvedere Museum

The New York opening marks the first US touchpoint for this exclusive offering, revolutionizing the Belvedere Museum’s fundraising outreach since its conception in 2022. Starting on February 14th, they are offering select Kiss NFTs to the public for purchase at the exhibition, with the option of dedications of love. For the price of $1925, you can purchase a specific NFT or go for a blind mint, and you can immortalize your love with a dedication. One lucky winner will also win a trip for two to Vienna, Austria, with VIP service at the esteemed Belvedere Museum.

From a Anh Nguyen, CEO of Nimi Collectibles, “A unique feature of the presentation at Superchief Gallery is that collectors will also have a chance to purchase certain specific tiles that are revealed, in addition to the blind mint option, on our platform Nimi.live – for the same fixed USD-equivalent price of $1,925. You can look through a sample of available tiles here: https://nimi.live/belvedere-collection/

In addition, the Belvedere also recently partnered with NFT artist Harto on a special project, Flora Forms. The Kiss NFT holders will get a free mint of these unique Bitcoin ordinals by Harto.

About Gustav Klimt, The Kiss (Lovers), 1908/09
The Kiss (Lovers) is an oil on canvas painting created by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt in 1908/09. The couple in The Kiss appear intimately entangled, oblivious to their surroundings, and lost in their embrace. With this work at the height of his “Golden Period,” Austrian painter Gustav Klimt created a universal allegorical statement about love as a central theme of human existence. The Austrian State bought the work when it was first presented in 1908 for the recently founded Modern Gallery in the Lower Belvedere. Since then, the painting has remained in the museum’s holdings. Today, The Kiss is considered an icon of Viennese Art Nouveau and European Modernism. It is one of the most famous works of art in the world.

About the Belvedere Museum, Austria
Austrian art is presented in an international context at three locations of the Belvedere Museum in Vienna. The Baroque complex of the Upper and Lower Belvedere and its garden are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its renowned art collection includes works from the Middle Ages to the present day. And, with 24 paintings by Gustav Klimt, the Belvedere possesses the world’s largest collection of his paintings. Other highlights include prominent works from the Viennese Biedermeier period, the Austrian Baroque, Vienna around 1900, and French Impressionism. Continued development and digitization in all areas will also ensure the Belvedere’s status as an outstanding museum in the future.
